The Art of Fashion

Elle and Mastercard Step Out in Style

I attended the Elle and Mastercard Step Out in Style event at Sandton City yesterday. The first thing that struck me was how they had created a fashion heaven, an enclave of sheer luxury and bliss in the middle of a frighteningly busy shopping mall at lunchtime, that I felt like I had been transported to the plush, refined halls of Harvey Nicks in Knightsbridge for a minute.
The second thing was that no matter how much I study and research, listening to fashion masterminds like Jackie Burger and Chis Viljoen will always teach me things that I never knew.
And then Chris took me by the hand and personally introduced me to his pick of bag for the season — the Fendi Pek-a-Boo — and I fell instantly in love. I tried it on, looked in the mirror and sighed just a little. Beautiful.
They talked trend, the most dominant of which is a return to classic and minimalism. Heels are kitten or flat. Colours are neutral with bright pops of blue, green and yellow. And hair is short, in a pony or loose waves.
Great information, great new products and lots of inspiration. Well done to Elle and Mastercard, and if you are in Joburg this weekend, get along to see for yourself.
