The Art of Fashion

Pink Ribbons, Fashion Aliens, SA Fashion Week and Other Stories

Captain's Log 3, Blog Week 130
Morning blog readers, I am in the bustling metropolis of Jozi this week attending SA Fashion Week. Apologies for the interruptions in usual service, but I am sure you all know what it is like when on the road — finding wifi connections a little harder up here!
1. It is the first day in October today and I have my pink ribbon attached to my outfit. Have you? Almost all of us will our lives touched by breast cancer in our lifetime and I know a very special lady who passed away a couple of years ago because it wasn't caught early enough. Awareness is the best way to prevent this from happening, so get involved and do what you can. Please.
2. Of course Milan fashion week has come and gone and the juggernaut has moved on to Paris. The talk of the town today is the collection by Rick Owens shown last night. Like an army of aliens they walked the ramp, largely in floor sweeping numbers and dazzled and confused in equal measure. Awesome.
3. Also on everyone's lips is that Miranda Kerr, wife of Orlando Bloom and Victoria Secret Angel, walked for Balenciaga for the second year in a row. This is unusual enough without the fact that she is also five months pregnant! Good for her.
4. SA Fashion Week is taking place at the amazing Arts on Main complex in inner city Joburg. Not only are we having our senses stimulated by the fashion, but the marriage of art and fashion is also celebrated through several installations by high profile SA designers, like Ella Buter, Clive Rundle, Lunar and Black Coffee. And I was able to do a little shopping to support Black Coffee at their retail store in the complex too!
Look out for all the reviews from SA Fashion Week on the blog all of next week, but for now I am off to do some meetings and attend more shows. I can't wait. SG out, for now.
