The Art of Fashion
One of the more interesting stories to come out of fashion month (and there really haven't been many — Mark Fast and underwear is about it. Oh and Anna Wintour wearing the same outfits three or four times...)is this one. At the D&G show, the world's most famous fashion street bloggers were seated front row, with laptops, and the buyers and fashion editors bumped to the second and third rows respectively. In fact, Tommy Ton (Jack & Jil), Garance Dore and Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) here were just a couple of seats away from La Wintour herself.
Now everyone had a different reaction to this new shift, but really the bottom line is that the immediacy of the social networking and blogging sites has meant that everyone has been up to date with front row celebrities, first models out, looks, triumphs and failures AS THEY HAPPEN throughout the fashion month. It is very simple — the internet is the default mechanism for breaking information on directional fashion and fashion news. By looking after the most influencial online fashion sources, you look after the fashion followers and consumers. The fashion editors' roles will continue to shift (definitely not disappear), but as influencers, there is a new game in town.
