Cannes 2011 Red Carpet Day 2: Colour Trends

We already noticed yesterday that the little white dress was the most prominent style trend in Cannes this year. And the execution continued on Day 2 with both young and old. Both twenty-something cool-chick Alexa Chung and seventy-something icon Jane Fonda looked amazing in their white dresses. I believe they are Chanel and Emilio Pucci respectively.
The second biggest colour trend is shades of gold. Angelina Jolie played it for day time in head-to-foot Salvatore Ferragmo at the premier of her new Kung Fu Panda movie. Diane Kruger, dressed in shimmering Calvin Klein, pulled out all the stops on the red carpet last night at the Restless premier. At the same event, Rachel McAdams twisted things a bit in her gold bustier and trouser look, which actually worked I was surprised to admit.
Older French beauties Ines de la Fressange and Carole Bouquet exemplify the third colour trend, and that is shades of purple. Both these women have been Chanel spokespeople over the years and continue to embody sophisticated style as they move into their fifties.
The message today, readers, is not only are there three clear colour trends in Cannes this year, but that elegant style, drop dead good looks and trend setting style statements are just as likely to be shown by the young as the much older. Excellent.
