Michelle Obama Has a Fashion First Day With Chinese President
For some reason the state visit by Chinese President Hu to the US has brought out the best in US First Lady Michelle Obama's wardrobe. Kicking off the year in such strong style (literally) is exciting and I can't wait to see what she does for the rest of the year.
What was interesting about her choices for the greeting and dinner with President Hu, was that both were British designers. While this may have been a slight fly in the style-ointment, the main objective was for her to look positive and dazzling for the occasion. This was achieved in spades with the dramatic red Alexander McQueen gown. I am sure she also managed to impress both Anna Wintour and Vera Wang with the selection as they were both present at the dinner.
I also particularly liked the Roksanda Ilincic beaded wool and duchess silk satin dress and wool coat from the London-based designer’s fall 2010 collection that she wore earlier in the day. Even the designer herself thought that she did a great job — especially by accessorising with those red gloves — so on trend for this winter.
