On the same night at the end of last week, two young and beautiful women stepped out in over-sized button-down shirts. Both women are actresses with high levels of fashion credibility. Both seemed to be making a statement. And both looked wonderful, interesting and not exactly conventional. There is something a little 'off' about both looks. Something a bit dated.
And yet it seems to work.
It works in the sense that an oversized button-down shirt always works — it looks like you stole it from your boyfriend when you ran out of your own clothes on a naughty sleep over. It also works here because there is a crispness to the tops and a dazzle to the bottoms. The eternal mix of masculine and feminine.
And yet... I am torn. But what I know for sure is that I most certainly will be adding some men's shirts to my wardrobe this week. Sigh.
Did I hear someone say victim?
