Venice Film Festival Red Carpet Day 2: WE
When Madonna comes to town there is always going to be a bit of a kerfuffle. She was in Venice yesterday with her posse, promoting and premiering her film WE, which she wrote and directed. The reviews are apparently 'mixed' with the highest praise being "it was much better than I expected." Oookay. I can, however, give extremely high praise for her outfits yesterday. She arrived at the photocall in L'Wren Scott. Fashion masterstroke. Just enough 'catholic' to remind us of her Like a Virgin video shot in Venice all those years ago. Just enough coverage to be taken seriously. Tight enough to remember that this is Madonna with a body of forged steel. And then she goes and does quirky at the premier in that beautiful Vionnet gown in pale blue with red beaded birds. She matched her lips to the birds which I thought was ok. But she also wore a pair of red sunglasses when she first started posing for pictures. It looked ridiculous and I am glad she took them off — so much better. Stunning dress.
One of the stars of the movie is Abbie Cornish. She wore a lovely, and unexpected, Elie Saab couture dress to the photocall. What wonderful construction on this simple black dress. In the evening she wore an Atelier Versace gown that was magnificent and fitted to perfection but I actually preferred the day look if I am honest. It is just too much dress for me.
Attending the premier was the lovely Marisa Tomei who banged out her third great look of the week, dressed as she was in Erdem. We have seen this dress before on others, but Marisa still manages to look lovely and very true to herself. I love the dress — another potential Kate Middleton choice. Resplendent in pink Gucci was model Natasha Poly. I'm not sure why she was there, but she looked lovely. Job done.
