I was chuffed to see that local designer Chris Kilchling of Undacova Underwear was profiled on the Design Indaba site this week. Let me tell you why you should take the time to check the piece out here.
First, Chris is uniquely interesting in the fashion world as he is a DESIGNER first and not a fashion guy. Which is not to say that he isn't passionate about fashion, but his point of view is a graphic one. He comes from a position of design first. This is an unusual point of departure and works really well to achieve stand out in our industry.
Second, Chris is not a native African. But he is committed and giddy about being a part of the local industry, growing it, developing it and doing so organically and from a place of total authenticity. You can only admire his drive.
Third, Chris is a straight, good looking surfer dude. And that, my friends, is enough of an anomaly to get you clicking immediately.
But most of all, I like to use this blog to provide as much support as possible to the local designers and members of this fashion industry. And Chris really is one of the good guys. Now go.
