When I was at the Cape Town Fashion Council 'Get Connected' meeting yesterday, it was announced that the next Mercedes-Benz Award for Art and Culture (previously known as the DaimlerChrysler Award) will be awarded to an emerging SA designer of fashion. The award will be made in January 2009, and the selection process kicks off in the next few weeks. The winner will get recognition both here in SA, and in Germany, where they will be invited to show at Berlin Fashion Week 2009. Pretty cool, I say. So if you are a young designer, get your nearest fashion body to nominate you and good luck.
