I've said it before and I will say it again, Zara Phillips and I go back. Well, that's not strictly true, but I did meet her a few times and get papped with her, so I am going to stick to my story. And I was delighted that she was getting married. In a typically low-key, knees-up kind of way. Except involving all the senior royals somehow. So let's start by taking a look at the style of this royal wedding, from the bride's perspective. First up, no fleeces in sight. Over five glorious outfits, there was total absence of fleece and for that I am deeply grateful. So what did she wear?
She started the rehearsal in a striped cardigan hoodie, jeans and flip flops. Silver flip flops, mind you. So a little under dressed for the occasion, but she looked natural, charming and pretty. And the sunnies are cool.
She changed later on Friday evening for the pre-wedding reception on one of the Royal ships. She looked incredible in an asymmetric cocktail dress, hair and makeup groomed to perfection. It's not often we see Zara looking expensive, but in this outfit she is clearly aristocratic.

Her wedding dress was by Stewart Parvin, the same royal couturier who dressed her mum and grandmother yesterday. A seemingly safe and royal-family-friendly choice, showing no signs of rebellion and embracing her lineage for possibly the first time in her life, publicly. But more than that, she looked happy and comfortable, she looked pleased with her choice and therefore it really doesn't matter what we say, it worked for her. And I love that sleeve detail.

The next morning was a comedy of hangover errors from what we read in the press. With very little to no sleep being involved, Zara appeared first in a comfy sweat top and her jeans from the day before and then changed into a cute linen top and white jeans for the trip home. Since her new husband was still in his morning suit from the day before at 2pm on Sunday, I think she was doing quite well!
All in, Zara looked like a very beautiful bride. Just like us. But with fancier guests.
