My new favourite photographer is Tim Walker. high fashion, just the right side of wacky and super beautiful. This month he shot the stupendous Tilda Swinton for W Magazine in this fashion story that is literally out of this world. The styling was masterfully accomplished by Jacob Kjeldgaard, who despite having more constants in his name than any human should have, created a world where you can only image The Swinton to live in.
The interview that accompanies the photo spread is revealing. The Swinton tells how she asked Alber Elbaz to create an Oscar frock for her "to attract as little attention as possible and to feel as comfortable as if I were wearing pajamas." She goes on to say, "little did I know that a really simple, chic dress one might have worn in Paris or Berlin would stick out like a sore thumb in Los Angeles."
The Swinton tells how she came to fashion through friendships — with Viktor & Ralph, Haider Ackermann, Pheobe Philo and others. "For someone to know what you need to feel comfortable, they need to know who you are. Having them make clothes for me is like being cooked for by someone who knows what you like to eat." Exactly.
