Duchess of Cambridge Goes Foreign, Wearing Danish Designer
It is day six of the royal tour of Canada and there is really not much to report. I thought that these were lovely images of a dressed-down Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, on the lake, kayaking to Honeymoon Island with Prince William, where they were to spend some 'alone-time'. I wanted to see more of that look. It appeared to be another top and a checked scarf that she wore over her casual skinny jeans, moccasins and that cool utility top she wore.
Of course it all went a bit pear-shaped when they had to don those personalised Canadian Ranger fleecy red hoodies...hmmm...but she brought it back strong with the hair pulled over to the side — what we here in the O Magazine fashion office call "Miss Venezuela hair." Awesome.
Earlier in the day, for the more formal occasion (if you can call street hockey and greeting the locals "formal") Catherine broke with her tradition of wearing British designers on official engagements by wearing Danish designer Marlene Birger. I happen to really like this designer — whose signature style is beautiful fabrication, often with small embellishments, and very feminine but simple pieces. This shift (obvs) is maybe marginally on the too-simple side, but I like the structure that the shoulder pad adds, and it is impeccable and chic. I personally have no problem with a break from British in the design stakes, but I am guessing it may cause a few eyebrows to leap skywards. Oh well.
What's your verdict on the looks from day 6? I think a solid 6.5/10 is in order, but I am gagging for another evening function soon as I need a bit more pizzazz from the tour round about now. Ok, thanks.
