Golden Globes Surprises — You and I May Beg to Differ
One of the most surprisingly delightful scenes on the Golden Globes red carpet this year was when Dame Helen Mirren bumped into The Tilda Swinton and the two embraced, whispered between them and giggled. It was a tiny tale of the way in which two women who respect, admire, enjoy and genuinely like each other interact. No artifice. No allowances for Hollywood.
Dame Helen, it is agreed by all, looked marvelous as usual. Age-appropriate yet sexy. Glamorous and on trend with her colour choices. The dress is Badgley Mischka and the bag Ferragamo. Classic.
The commentators at large all agree that Tilda Swinton was a style miss. BUT I DISAGREE! I love The Swinton's irreverent style. I love that she takes her cues from the collection that made the biggest impact at last fashion week — Jil Sander. It is perfectly edgy and fashion-forward. It speaks volumes about current style and suits the androgynous and unpredictable personality of the wearer. It is so clean and fresh it may as well be toothpaste. With all the sickly sweet prom dresses on the red carpet making my teeth ache, The Swinton delivered exactly what was needed. I think her look rocked. There. I said it.
