NEWS FROM STIAAN LOUW, MAYA PRASS and THULA SINDI
Anyone who is familiar with the innovative work of Stiaan Louw is in for a shock. Winter 2009 will not be showing any black. That's right, the work he is currently completing for the Mercedes Benz Art Award for Fashion Design will be the last of the black and there will be something completely different at Design Indaba. Maya Prass is breaking totally new ground in her submission to the Mercedes Benz Art Award for Fashion Design. My jaw dropped open and WOW popped out when I went to get a glimpse last week. Pattern, her signature, is reinterpreted in five different ways — most of it totally unexpected. Again, keep visiting as I have some video footage of these surprises too.
And Thula Sindi is showing his winter collection this week at Audi Joburg Fashion Week. Animal prints and glamour are promised along with the usual celebration of Thula's strong and beautiful women. I can't wait to see it.
