The Art of Fashion

Style Blogger The Sartorialist Tells All on NYT Video
The New York Times is running a short series on fashion bloggers and they have released a video of Scott "the Sartorialist" Schuman. I have been following his blog for close on five years now, and I have to say the following: He takes such beautiful pictures. And even though the pictures have become a little samey after all this time, I still go every day and appreciate the images — although I am less excited about uncovering something or someone new these days. Just saying.
Fundamentally, blogs are personal, and Scott Schuman himself is the point of The Sartorlialist as he explains in the video — we are just peeking in through his window. And I am so glad we have been allowed to do this for the past five years. I would never have started my own blog had it not been for his.
In the little narrated video montage of his work, Schuman explains the process starts when he asks someone to pose for a picture because they look so great. "That rush of kind of embarrassment comes off, you know, beautifully," he says. "I mean that really is the beautiful feeling — they feel so flattered." Schuman adds that he doesn't intend to report on clothes. "I'm trying to capture it in the romantic way that I see it," he continues. "The abstract idea is much more important than what people are wearing."  Interesting approach and it does really help to understand his perspective.
